Antique 14ct (14k in American English) gold and seed pearl brooch dating to the 1930s. This brooch is in amazing condition, the catch and hinge are strong and in perfect working order. It has a lovely weight to it and measures just under 4cm in width (1.5 inches).
The horseshoe became a very popular talisman and symbol of love, luck and protection in Britain, American and Europe in Victorian times and is still going strong. In fact, the horseshoe is very much in demand these days, recently worn by Carrie Bradshaw and Ken (as in Barbie and Ken).
There is a strong debate about wether you should wear the horseshoe with the ends of the horseshoe pointing up (this way it's said to 'catch' the luck) or with the ends pointing down (this way the luck spills out onto the wearer). Both ways sound good to us and the good news is that this brooch can be worn either way.
It weighs 3.85g. No hallmarks but is stamped 14ct and tests 14ct.
